Professional Liability
This insurance product is designed to protect companies and individuals against damages and defense costs resulting from acts, errors or omission in their performance of professional duties to others for a fee.
While historically professional liability has focused on doctors, lawyers, accountants, architects, engineers and other professions that are characterized as intellectual and requiring a higher level of education, the categories of occupations to which professional liability standards are now applied, as well as the concept of who is a professional, has expanded.
Policy forms vary quite a bit. There are specific policies for certain professions including Lawyers Professional, Accountants Professional, Security Broker, Architects and Engineers Professional Liability. While these classes are easily recognizable, many professions are not handled with dedicated policies. These other professions that include non-degreed professions are written on a Miscellaneous Professional policy and endorsed to cover the appropriate exposure.
